Stop puppies biting- clicker dog training

This video is on how to stop your puppy biting you. Dogs use their mouths to interact with their environment, so it is normal for a puppy to want to bite your hands or clothes. However in our society it is highly inappropriate. To train a puppy to stop using their mouth when interacting with humans is simple. All you have to do is set up training scenarios where your puppy would normally start biting and train an alternate response- calmly sitting, lying down, standing, or walking with a closed mouth. First you would start with the least arousing game- so simply just a reaching hand. As you reach, click or say “yes” and then feed a treat. As the puppy is successful you can progress to more and more arousing stimulus. You should not allow your dog to be man handled or petted roughly. Petting should not only be rewarding for the human but for the dog as well. However at some point in your dogs life, someone might get to your dog before you can stop them and be overly rough. You can prepare your dog for these situations by playing training games. But when these situations do occur in real life, respect your dog, and get them out of the stressful situation. Do practice handling exercises for grooming as well as vet visits regularly… Tips- These exercises should only be done by ADULTS. As children can actually TEACH dogs to find mouthing and biting fun. If you want to work with your child as the distraction, have your puppy with you on leash while you control all …

Our 8 weeks old puppy won’t stop bitting, he loves to bite our feet specially when we’re not wearing shoes, he’ll bite really hard, I’ve try many ways to stop him from doing that like clapping, saying a firm NO!, or EH!, etc… I bought bitter spray & whenever I spray that on my feet he’ll ran away BUT 10 minutes later he’ll be bitting again, I get really frustrated since whenver I walk he’ll jump into my feet, I don’t know what else to do specially because I have a 4 yr old daughter.
Help pls!

Awesome video Emily! I just started working with Twix on this. He was already pretty good! :) It was fun taking them to the park today!
Perfect! I’ve been in the ballpark with this training, but this answered some questions of my own. I’ve also passed this video on to everyone who interacts with my 12 week old pup regularly, so that they also understand. Thanks as always Emily!
You have such a great way with dogs, Emily.
That is a beautiful puppy.
love that you show the movement that you need to proof as well in the mouthing game exercises. flapping trouser. etc.
I dont use my toy introduction to a biting puppy for rough housing with it though, i just hold it still and stroke the puppy gently, while the pup mouths on and explores the toy. The stroking then encourages the dog to find holding the toy a relaxing stimuli…it becomes a default behaviour…a learnt safe way to channel its own excitement and release relaxing hormones :))
The Dalmatian is a friend of mines pup, the golden puppy is a clients dog… Tug the hairy terrier and the merle BC are my pups.
do you have a new pup?
Your puppy is so cute!
